Google launched Google Health in May of 2008 with the aim to organise, monitor and track Health and/or Wellness information much more easily. It did succeed and that to in a big way.
A Google Health account, allows to store, manage and share all of your health and wellness information in one central place. It did get acceptance in the West from patients and doctors alike as both of them got relieved from the clutter of prescriptions.
For those of you who are unaware about Google Health, Click Here for a brief round up.
Google Health has recently come up with the following new features:-
1) Option to store Advanced Directives
This allows you to specify what kind of care you want to receive when you are sick, injured, caught in an emergency health condition or at the end of your life by just filling an advance directive form, to Healthcare Professionals/those who will act on your behalf. The information gets stored in your Health Profile. It's just a five step process- Download the form, Fill it , Scan it , Upload it and now you are ready to share it with your loved ones and caregivers. 2) Google Health and Medicare PHR Choice registration
This integration with Medicare is a one year regional pilot. If you are a Medicare Fee-for-Service beneficiary living in Utah or Arizona, you can create a free Google Health Account and get the last 24 months of your Medicare claims information sent to it. You'll then get automatic updates whenever something changes.
Although a lot has been done to improve Google Health since its introduction back in 2008, I strongly feel that there is a lacuna which still exists to revolutionise Healthcare delivery.
In my next post I will be highlighting certain steps that should be taken by companies in this space to revolutionise the Healthcare sector and make the patient feel convenient.
